Now that Audrey and Grant's five kids are grown, they are turning their beloved family home into a cozy bed and breakfast in the heartland. Opening weekend makes Audrey anxious, with family and friends coming from all over to help celebrate the occasion. But when Audrey's daughter, Landyn, arrives, the U-Haul she's pulling makes it clear she's not just here for a visit. Audrey immediately has questions. What happened in New York that sent Landyn running home? And where is her husband, Chase? One thing was for sure, the Chicory Inn was off to a rocky start. Can Audrey still realize her dream, and at the same time provide the comfort of home her daughter so desperately needs?

Home to Chicory Lane by Deborah Raney -- This was an enjoyable read and I loved the characters which were true to life in my opinion. Some of the reviewers stated that some of the characters were complainers (my term) but how many of us has faced trying situations and not complained at one time or another? I cannot help but wonder at all of the complaining that God must listen to daily and yet He loves us enough to listen and not judge us for it. This young couple needed to get on the same page in their marriage in order to face the trials that face so many of us & to have a successful marriage. Neither of them may have handled their problems the way an old, wise married couple would have but then they were not yet old and had much to learn. The most important lesson they learned was the depth of their love for each other and their need for God in their marriage. Without this time of learning, their marriage would not have lasted very long. It took some work and adjustment, but they are finally headed toward a successful marriage by the end of this book. Oh, and they will face many more problems as life progresses which could tear their marriage apart. But, they have the fundamentals down which is a major undertaking in any marriage. While a surface reading of this book is lighthearted, you will find a more complex story if you think it through. A great story in my opinion!I hate the little boxes that you have to check to do a generic description of a book! For instance, some might call this book "predictable." I say it has some twists but could still be called predictable, I guess. Some might describe the mood as hopeful, nostalgic, light-hearted, & thoughful. And, those are the words that I would use but checked "light-hearted" as it is not a "dark" book. However, if one would stop and consider the different parts of the lives of the characters, one would definitely call this book "thoughtful." The hope is that others might read a book such as this and apply the situations & outcomes to their own lives. I hope to see more books by this author & hope that Audible books will bring us some of these books.

Home to Chicory Lane (Audible Audio Edition) Deborah Raney Suzie Althens LLC Dreamscape Media Books Reviews
Characters are loveable and weather personal mistakes and life's storms with humility as well as faith and courage.
A wonderful story about the challenges family deal with each other. Grandparents, parents, sisters and kids. How we all help one another in need while dealing with our ambitions and dreams.
I am used to reading books with likable characters who make decisions that are thought out and sensible. And when things don't work out, they have a Plan B that pulls everything together. I know, I know- not how life often goes. The people in this book don't fall into this category. They make impulsive decisions that result in a lot of uncertainty, and then go on to make more decisions that result in further complications. And then they question God when things don't work out. Two of the main characters come across as bratty and immature, scary because they are married and expecting a child. Two other characters sink their retirement and savings into turning their house into a bed and breakfast only to do a lot of grumbling and complaining once the business is up and running. I hung in with this book because I wanted to see how things turned out for these irritating people. I think the people who gave this book low ratings did so because in some parts it really does reflect real life, where things are not so sensible and tidy and people often come across as plain silly. It was a decent read for a dollar 99 but I will not be buying the sequel which is $10.
It doesn't take long to feel included in this family's real life atmosphere. The setting, the dream of a loving couple and all of the madness that follows kept drawing me in until I didn't want to leave. On to Book 2!
Loved the book Home to Chicory Lane. Looking forward to reading the series. Quick reading with lots of twists and even a hold your breath chapter. A young married couple face the challenges that newly weds often have. Great reading for young and old.
Love the family. The relationships, dramas, joys. Love the bed & breakfast & the description of the town & area.
it’s a great read!
Two generations struggle with how much togetherness is enough. The husband in the younger couple did not have a good example to follow, so his decision making style wrankles his young wife. The parents are dealing with a huge decision to follow a dream, and how it has turned everyone's lives upside down. I love how real this story is, and how Ms. Raney makes you care about each person in the story. Can't wait to read more small town adventures!
